An important part of deciding to be a MOMpreneur or a #GirlBoss is your “WHY”. Everything revolves around it, in fact, why you want to start your own business, maybe it is to add money to the household, or maybe you want more time to spend with your family, or maybe you just simply want out of the rat race of corporate America is what will drive you to succeed. Whatever your reason why focus on it…write it down, keep it where you can reflect on it when you feel like giving up.
If you’ve ever faced a significant crisis in your life you’ll have known the power of purpose to tap reserves of energy, determination, and courage you likely didn’t know you had. Your mission is clear. Your goal is compelling. Your focus is laser-like. Your potential is tapped. The power of purpose is similar to light focused through a magnifying glass. Diffused light has little use, but when it’s focused—like through a magnifying glass—that light can set fire to paper. Focus that same light, even more, think laser beam here, and it has the power to cut through steel like it’s butter. Likewise, a clear sense of purpose will enable you to focus your efforts on what matters most, inspiring and compelling you to take risks and push forward regardless of the odds or what is standing in your way. It is your “WHY”, your purpose, what drives you to succeed.
So you may be asking… “Laurie, what is your why?”, here it is:
To be able to be here for my girls as I always have been, but to have financial freedom of my own making is something that is important to me beyond measure these days. I have a deep-seated need to get back to the person I was prior to getting married: Independent, Hard Working, and Driven. To know that the hard work I put in today is working towards something better for my daughters future tomorrow. I want to be able to give to my girl’s things I didn’t have, to be able to say yes to the occasionally crazy things they ask for, but more importantly to feel like I have accomplished something, to leave a legacy for my daughters and be a positive and strong female role model for them.
This is my WHY, what is yours? Financial Freedom? More time for family? Independence or a way out of something that is dragging you down? Whatever the reason, find your why…focus on it. When things get tough and you want to quit, remember WHY you are doing this, remember what is important to you.
I plan to share my journey with you, what works, what doesn’t and tips I find along the way. I hope you will stay with me on this journey and maybe share yours with us. I love hearing about others that are finding the balance between kids and business and accomplishing their dreams in the process.
